“Mess with Israel and I mess with you” -God (voice of God performed by Jack Chick)

Jack Chick has a rather, um, interesting history of Israel. Apparently, being the top recipient of US foreign aid is not enough. We must observe Israel’s Holy Eviction Notice powers or be punished by calamities of nature!

A novel idea.

Huh…a Labor Department Secretary who is actually involved in labor issues. Strange days, indeed.

We know how this works. The howler monkeys generate as much sustained noise as possible over a supposed “issue” in order to garner national attention. As the “issue” starts to receive more and more airtime it slowly gains legitimacy regardless of how preposterous it is. If you ignore the “issue”, well, that just goes to show how much of an out-of-touch, liberal elitist you are and OMG please don’t call me a liberal I’ll print your story about Mena, Arkansas, state trooper drug runners!!!

In recent days, several radio hosts, including Brian Sussman, Mark Davis (filling in for Rush Limbaugh), Lars Larson, Bob Grant, Jim Quinn, and Rose Tennent have promoted the discredited claim that President-elect Barack Obama has not produced a valid birth certificate and is not eligible for the presidency because he is not a natural-born citizen. As Media Matters for America has repeatedly documented, the Obama campaign has posted a copy of Obama’s birth certificate on its Fight the Smears website and reportedly provided the original to FactCheck.org, whose staff concluded in an August 21 post that it “meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship.” A Hawaii Health Department official also reportedly confirmed to PolitiFact.com that the birth certificiate Obama’s campaign posted on the Fight the Smears website is valid, proving he was born in the state of Hawaii.

Of course, the goal here isn’t to ensure Constitutional integrity. It’s to get enough Jethros howling about birth certificates to alter the focus and tenor of news coverage involving Obama. This bullshit worked for them during eight years of Clinton but I’m not convinced that the old play book will still work. Nothing has so far but it’s all they know.

Don’t you dare say class politics.

Representation in the workplace may be what validates the existence of unions but they have certainly done a terrible job at PR after taking a beating over The Big Three asking for hand-outs. Sadly, Leo Gerard of the USW is getting scant airtime compared to the overwhelming anti-union propaganda that’s out there right now but seeing him on Rachel Maddow is a positive sign.

Labor could take advantage of the current financial crisis by getting in front of as many cameras and microphones as possible to state their case and/or defend their positions. The usual corporate talking points about greedy unions led by corrupt bosses are looking blatantly hypocritical and considering the enormous amounts of cash they’re demanding from taxpayers their usual lectures about the bounties of the free market are insulting at best. You would have to look back eighty years to find public opinion of Wall Street as low as it is right now and working people have voted overwhelmingly for candidates that have promised them alternatives. Unions couldn’t ask for a better time to get refine a message and deliver it to American workers.
