Quote of the day.

Monday, August 18th, 2008 @ 10:51 am | Politics

The assumption of Obama’s critics is that a president should always reduce complex issues to simple black and white truisms, unfounded in reality. That’s why they supported Bush. And that’s why they’re supporting McCain.

-Andrew Sullivan

McCain’s economic plan is that taxes are bad, because America is so cool we don’t have to pay for anything. He plans to add nearly $5 trillion more to the deficit than Obama, but “Obama will raise your taxes!” Guess what, Americans? Each of you owes thirty grand. Have a child? That kid owes $30K too. Everybody. Obama’s tax plan is very generous towards the middle and lower class, but there’s still no reason for Americans to think they can get something for nothing, so much so that the very mention of taxes sends them into apoplectic fits.

Some of us already pay thirty grand in taxes, Jeromy.

But just to get you to lighten up a tiny bit, I have a new limerick contest. I’d like to see Obama limericks from liberals, and McCain limericks from conservatives!

Sweet Cindy said to dear John,
“Sometimes you run on and on.
    Your campaign is dyin’
    And no one is buyin’
And me and my money are gone.”

  2. jeromy Says:

Dana: Does that soundbite have a logical connection to my point? Who pays for McCain’s $7 trillion? Magic ponies?

  3. Prem Says:

Nobody pays for McCain. Also there is no logic to your point. Already many of the people pay thirty grand could McCain repay them. How could McCain add more to the deficit than the Obama.? Noway.

  4. Dana Says:

Mr Brown, it tells you that we rich Republicans are a’ready paying our fair share, and more. It’s the non-producing malingeres that the liberals love who need to be kicked in the ass and made to work and pay taxes.

  5. jeromy Says:

Dana: Uh, it may mean you’re paying your share of the deficit, but not taxes in general.

So McCain has a plan to make all the “non-producing malingeres” work and pay taxes, and that’ll pay off the deficit and the extra $7 trillion he wants to add?

  6. Sharon Says:

This is your idea of an argument for your guy, Jeromy? “He won’t raise your taxes as much!” Oh, yeah. You’ve convinced me!

  7. jeromy Says:

Sharon: As incoherently stupid as ever.

  8. Thomas Tallis Says:

I’ll wager that I pay more taxes than anybody here, not bragging just saying, and my most compelling reason for voting Obama is that Republicans habitually lie about how their tax plans will benefit the taxpayer. Reagan had the courage of his convictions on this issue, though he ran the economy into the ground on it; neither Bush nor McCain will actually give me any tax relief, and their supporters know it. Obama might.

  9. Nate W Says:

Cuz the economy is doing so well after eight years of Bush economic policies.

  10. Thomas Tallis Says:

what are you even talking about nate

  11. Nate W Says:

What I mean is that if the economy were roaring along and the deficit was being whittled down then clowns like sharon and Dana may have a point. These tax cuts were sold as a sure-fire bet to get the money flowing and they’ve failed miserably.

  12. Sharon Says:

Jeromy: as moronic as ever. No wonder you get comments only from the guys who post here and Dana.

  13. jeromy Says:

Sharon: No, seriously. Your comment was incoherent. Make sense, you damned fool, and you might earn a better reply. Was it a typo? I don’t fucking care, I’m tired of editing your shit for you.

  14. mike g Says:

Sharon> could you at least try and stay on topic and keep the ad hominems to a minimum please? It will save all of us the annoyance of having to listen to you whine and complain like a little bitch with a skinned knee when you get some shit flung back at you.

  15. Thomas Tallis Says:

my crystal ball says Sharon’s next move is to feign taking offense at “profanity”

    how’m I doin’

  16. mike g Says:

Nate has a good point; if the tax cuts were such a success then why is the economy in such bad shape?

  17. jeromy Says:

Whatever it takes to avoid the issues!
