The difficulty of being a slightly sane Republican.

Don’t adjust your monitor:

It was the middle of a tough primary contest, and Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.) had convened a small meeting with donors who had contributed thousands of dollars to his previous campaigns. But this year, as Inglis faced a challenge from tea party-backed Republican candidates claiming Inglis wasn’t sufficiently conservative, these donors hadn’t ponied up. Inglis’ task: Get them back on the team. “They were upset with me,” Inglis recalls. “They are all Glenn Beck watchers.” About 90 minutes into the meeting, as he remembers it, “They say, ‘Bob, what don’t you get? Barack Obama is a socialist, communist Marxist who wants to destroy the American economy so he can take over as dictator. Health care is part of that. And he wants to open up the Mexican border and turn [the US] into a Muslim nation.'” Inglis didn’t know how to respond.

It used to be that if you said George W. Bush was an idiot who invaded Iraq on false premises you were accused of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Some days, I tell ya…

Anyway, it’s a good tale of another conservative hitting a roadblock of frustration with the stupid and crazy that is today’s GOP base. Should be happening to Dana over at CPST any day now…

Thank you McCain, Palin, and Glenn Beck for waking up the part of America that has been lying dormant waiting for their leaders to talk their crazy talk language. Even Bush wasn’t stupid enough to lie in bed with these people. He would speak in simple terms and they would believe whatever he said. He had all the power in the world to feed crazy to these people but he didn’t. It reminds me of that episode of Family Guy when Lois is running for mayor and claims that Hitler is plotting with the Legion of Doom to assassinate Jesus. It sounds crazy but just look at the nonsense Sen. Bob Inglis was subjected to. How do you even respond to that? He might as well tell them about his secret plan to use South Carolina mines to dig a tunnel deep down to connect with the hollow Earth that is within our own Earth so that the people of South Carolina can be safe from the evils of Obama. There is no reasoning with these people because they don’t comprehend reality.
