Wait, health care reform is indefensible???

Friday, November 5th, 2010 @ 1:22 pm | Clueless Conservatives, Health Care, Politics

If anybody has been listening to Mitch McConnel ever, but more specifically since the election, it should be clear that McConnell is such a practiced liar that he would regard anybody who even expected him to tell the truth as naive. He says what he believes will serve his interests, and he will not be bothered by truthfulness.
Already McConnell admitted he pulled a good one by telling Republicans that he will get the “indefensible” health care bill repealed as soon as he gets a Republican Senate and President too.

But wait, what? Indefensible? What? I seem to recall shortly before HCR was passed Obama taking down a room full of Republicans on the issue, but furthermore, I’ve yet to hear what is so wrong about the HCR bill that Obama ran on passing in 2008.

I mean, I know the leftist problem with it: it’s not single payer, it doesn’t have a public option, negotiating prices is ruled out…concessions to business, to the right, to the “center.” But Republicans knew a successful HCR would be a potential death knell for them and a huge success for Obama. As Senator Jim DeMint urged, Republicans had to make HCR his “Waterloo.”

Well, they failed to do that legislatively. But dampened lefty enthusiasm left HCR with few avid defenders, so Republicans just kept up the intense assault and now have supposed 48% support for repeal among those who voted this week.

Yet the only thing Republicans have really rested their case on is the one part of HCR that doesn’t have majority support (surprise, people like all the good things it does), the individual mandate.

You know, that Republican idea from Heritage and Mitt Romney, that delivers customers to the insurance companies and allows them to stay afloat while covering those with pre-existing conditions.

So if you unplug the mandate, then all you get is insurance premiums skyrocketing even more than they did during the Bush years.

Republicans have attempted to sidestep this by going after the liberty angle. Because you’re a slave to the state if you get taxed extra for being irresponsible and not signing up for health insurance.

Um, yeah.

Of course, the way discourse in the media goes, leftist concerns don’t matter, and whatever Republicans say, no matter how extreme or nuts, must be taken very seriously. And so it goes that without many on the left really able to get super-excited by a super-compromised version of what they wanted, the anti-compromise right is getting close to establishing the meme that HCR is “indefensible.”

Oh, yeah, and Republicans love to point out that there were cuts to Medicare as part of the reform. Yeah, those spending-cutting fiscally responsible Republicans…

Against the squawking from the right, HCR is easily defensible. And considering the state of health care as it is, it is absolutely defensible, in fact it was mandatory.

I’m going to stand this ground, and break every Republican who tries to claim McConnell was remotely truthful. It is his claim that is indefensible, and I issue the challenge now.

Of course, right-wingers know they visit this site only to meet their doom, so don’t expect many challenges. Their attacks are to be spammed in venues where they think it can find purchase.

That’s what people who can’t make a case do.

    START NOW!

As you all know. Had congress passed a government-run robust Public Option CHOICE! available to everyone on day one, our economy and jobs would have taken off like a rocket. And still will.

The message from these midterm elections is clear. The American people want real healthcare reform. They want that individual mandate requiring them to buy private health insurance abolished. And they want a government-run robust public option CHOICE! available to everyone on day one. And they want it now.

They want Drug re-importation, and abolishment or strong restrictions on patents for biologic and prescription drugs. And government controlled and negotiated drug and medical cost. They want back control of their healthcare system from the Medical Industrial Complex. And they want it NOW!

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL NOT AND MUST NOT ALLOW AN INDIVIDUAL MANDATE TO STAND WITHOUT A STRONG GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION CHOICE! AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE.

For profit healthcare is extremely unethical, and morally repugnant. It’s as morally repugnant as slavery was. And few if any decent Americans are going to allow them-self to be compelled to support such an unethical and immoral crime against humanity.

This is a matter of National and Global security. There can be NO MORE EXCUSES.

Further, we want that corrupt, undemocratic filibuster abolished. Whats the point of an election if one corrupt member of congress can block the will of the people, and any legislation the majority wants. And do it in secret. Give me a break people.

Also, unemployment healthcare benefits are critically needed. But they should be provided through the Medicare program at cost, less the 65% government premium subsidy provided now to private for profit health insurance.

Congress should stop wasting hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on private for profit health insurance subsidies. Subsidies that cost the taxpayer 10x as much or more than Medicare does. Private for profit health insurance plans cost more. But provide dangerous and poorer quality patient care.

Republicans: GET RID OF THE INDIVIDUAL MANDATE.

Democrats: ADD A ROBUST GOVERNMENT-RUN PUBLIC OPTION TO HEALTHCARE REFORM.

This is what the American people are shouting at you. Both parties have just enough power now to do what the American people want. GET! IT! DONE! NOW!

If congress does not abolish the individual mandate. And establish a government-run public option CHOICE! before the end of 2011. EVERY! member of congress up for reelection in 2012 will face strong progressive pro public option, and anti-individual mandate replacement candidates.

Strong progressive pro “PUBLIC OPTION” CHOICE! and anti-individual mandate volunteer candidates should begin now. And start the process of replacing any and all members of congress that obstruct, or fail to add a government-run robust PUBLIC OPTION CHOICE! before 2011.

We need two or three very strong progressive volunteer candidates for every member of congress that will be up for reelection in 2012. You should be fully prepared to politically EVISCERATE EVERY INCUMBENT that fails or obstructs “THE PUBLIC OPTION”. And you should be willing to step aside and support the strongest pro “PUBLIC OPTION” candidate if the need arises.

ASSUME CONGRESS WILL FAIL and SELLOUT again. So start preparing now to CUT THEIR POLITICAL THROATS. You can always step aside if they succeed. But only if they succeed. We didn’t have much time to prepare before these midterm elections. So the American people had to use a political shotgun approach. But by 2012 you will have a scalpel.

Congress you could pass a robust government-run public option now during your lame duck session. You know what the American people want. You already have several bills on record. And the house has already passed a public option. Departing members could leave with a truly great accomplishment. And the rest of you would solidify your job before the 2012 elections.

President Obama, you promised the American people a strong public option available to everyone. And the American people overwhelmingly supported you for it. Maybe it just wasn’t possible before. But it is now.

Knock heads. Threaten people. Or do whatever you have to. We will support you. But get us that robust public option CHOICE! available to everyone on day one before 2011. Or We The People Of The United States will make this midterm election look like a cake walk in 2012. And it will include you.

We still have a healthcare crisis in America. With hundreds of thousands dieing needlessly every year in America. And a for profit medical industrial complex that threatens the security and health of the entire world. They have already attacked the world with H1N1 killing thousands, and injuring millions. And more attacks are planned for profit, and to feed their greed.

    Spread the word people.

Progressives, prepare the American peoples scalpels. It’s time to remove some politically diseased tissues.

God Bless You my fellow human beings. I’m proud to be one of you. You did good.

See you on the battle field.

    Sincerely

  2. Don Parnell Says:

You lefties keep running on your socialized medicine program. On November 2 the American people told the United States government to stay the hell out of our healthcare system. I challenge any of you folks to show me in the constitution where it is the federal government’s responsibility to provide healthcare to it’s citizens. The reasons you liberals never stay in power long is you don’t know how to read the political winds very well. In 1976 Jimmy Carter became president with a Dem House and Dem Senate and lost the presidency and the Senate in 1980. In 1992 Bill Clinton became president and had super majorities in the house and senate and squandered them away, and now Obama has done the same thing. The more things change the more they stay the same. Obama will be a one president, and single payer is dead. Obama, like Jimmy Carter will be the gift that keeps on giving to conservatives for years. Health care is not a right it is a service to be bought and sold like any other service and the American people made that loud and clear on November 2.

  3. Henry Whistler Says:

Except it doesn’t have a public option, and merely redirects most people to private medical care.

I assume you’re against Medicare too?

Yeah, you guys are good at campaigning, and terrible at running the country or even getting the most basic facts straight. Power above all else.
