Two Trees Left…

…might as well get it over with and blow those down too, goddammit.

Every season in Iowa is life threatening. This morning we awoke to the sounds of civil defense sirens (socialism!!) warning the neighborhood that something wicked was coming our way. Last time I heard them I was seated exactly where I am now; in the kitchen on the family computer, and glanced out the window just in time to see a beautiful sugar maple along the side of the house sheared in half by a freakish gust. This result is typical of most maples. The primary limbs of the tree frequently diverge close to the ground creating a weakness near the trunk and therefore a tendency to split straight down the effected side. Like its twin that stood fifteen yards away, the silver maple that provided ample shade to the front of the house was beautiful but was fast growing and therefore suffered the same defect. Next weeks 90 degree stretch should be fantastic.
