Upon hearing the news of the Supreme Court decision upholding the Affordable Care Act:

These are the appropriate reactions. Unless Boehner felt like cheering for affordable health care for all Americans, then he could smile too.

Not for all, just for some–and for millions fewer now that states don’t have to implement the Medicaid expansion.

Now that the Constitutional windmill charge is over, most sources I’ve read believe the states will greedily gulp up that extra Medicaid money. It’s generally not human nature to reject free money, and state governments accountable to their constituents aren’t going to be eager to explain that they turned down the extra aid BECAUSE FREEDOM or something.

Tim Pawlenty totally did that as governor of Minnesota. It’s even on his Wikipedia page: “He cut health care spending to help balance the budget, and signed an executive order rejecting federal funds related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.”

He’s probably an exception proving the rule though, mostly because he’s also a jackass.

Oh, actually the state legislature also rejected plans for the Southwest Light Rail line that would have connected Eden Prairie to Minneapolis this past session, resulting in the loss of federal matching funds, citing budget concerns. Then, many of these same representatives turned around and approved the Vikings stadium (aka the largest corporate subsidy in the history of the state, and 3rd most expensive NFL stadium in history). You can’t win with these people.

Well, fuck. Hope he’s an exception. He’s not governor anymore, certainly.

Why am I not surprised that Rick Perry is the one?
